“The Witcher 3” cleans up at GameSpot’s People’s Choice awards

Having already claimed the grand prize at the official 2015 Game Awards in December, Polish studio CD Projekt Red’s RPG fantasy epic, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has also taken home the equivalent accolade in GameSpot’s people’s choice awards.

While we, and the gaming community, realizes that hundreds of “Game of the Year” awards are dished out annually, the significance of this particular achievement is that, while the voting for many awards (such as the Game Awards) is done exclusively by media personnel, gaming professionals and other industry practitioners, GameSpot’s process put the power back into the hands of the fans.

"The Witcher 3" has been a huge commercial and critical success

In a video on GameSpot’s website announcing the result of the poll, it was revealed that The Witcher 3 received a staggering 62% of all votes cast – therefore more than all other challengers combined. Also in contention were Fallout 4 (which wound up in a not-too-shabby second place), Metal Gear Solid V (third place), Bloodborne (fourth place) and independent title Rocket League (fifth place).

This landslide result is consistent with the fact that The Witcher 3 is now being considered by some pockets of the gaming community to be not only the best game of 2015, but perhaps one of the greatest games of all time.
