Halo 5 tops franchise multiplayer records

Almost a year after its release, 343 Industries’ Halo 5: Guardians continues to boast an expanding online community, with the developer reporting the largest number of active players since 2007’s Halo 3. Even more remarkable is that these figures were achieved even before Halo 5 had its recent promotion period, during which it was free for a week.

Without specifying the statistics, the developer claimed that the number of players who joined Halo 5‘s online community during this free period was impressive.

A likely contributor to this growing fanbase is 343’s free DLC campaign. While previous instalments in the Halo franchise had sold additional map packs to customers, Halo 5 gave away all extra content at no charge, releasing eight free expansions in total.

Microsoft has stated that the development of Halo 6 is in its formative stages, though the game is not yet confirmed. The franchise’s next major title will be 2017’s Halo Wars 2.
