Dawn of War 3 has been announced as the upcoming instalment in Relic Entertainment’s long-running and successful Warhammer 40,000 real-time strategy franchise. The announcement is accompanied by a CG trailer depicting the continuing war between the Space Marines and Orks. In addition to these factions, the Eldar make a return in the trailer. Dawn of War 3 appears to be taking the conflict between the series’ various factions to a grander scale. Furthermore, Relic are introducing new units; Imperial Knights and Wraithknights, described by the developer as the “biggest units ever”.
“This is the Dawn of War that fans have been waiting for,” said executive producer Stephen MacDonald. “Our biggest units ever? Check. Giant orbital lasers? Check. Base-building, epic heroes, huge battles, it’s all in there. Get ready for the biggest Dawn of War yet. For the Emperor!”
“Dawn of War 3 immerses players in the escalating brutality of galactic warfare, where they will lead elite hero units and colossal armies to victory, or oblivion.”
At this point, a PC-exclusive release looks likely. No plans for additional platform releases, nor a launch date, has been addressed.
The original Dawn of War was released in 2004, following which Relic Entertainment was sold to Sega for $26.6 million. Dawn of War 3 will be the first title developed by Relic while under total Sega ownership.
